HP Student Discount Guide

HP makes a lot of great products that are essential to student productivity, from calculators to printers to laptops. In order to make these items more affordable to the penny pinched student HP offers an academic discount that they call the Academic Purchase Plan (APP). In general the student discount via HP is around 7% - 10% off of the regular price of products.

To get the HP student discount just click on the following link:

You will then be asked what your affiliation is to an academic institution and go through a wizard style interface to select the school you are associated with. You can be K - 12 or higher education, and students, staff or administrators are eligible for the academic discount.

After you have been approved for the academic discount you can start browsing the products on the HP shopping site. You will notice a little green icon with “APP” on it that indicates the price being shown is the discounted price.

As you can see, the HP dv2800t laptop on the far right goes from being $979.99 to $912.19 with the discount applied, this is about a 7% discount. Any existing instant rebate or shipping offers are still offered on top of the student discount. However, it is important to note that sometimes HP offers coupon codes that will give significant percentage off offers to buyers and these coupon codes do not work in conjunction with the APP discount. More on this below.

HP coupon codes

HP sometimes offers coupon codes to buyers to save significant amounts off of laptops and other products on HP Shopping. These coupon codes do not work in conjunction with a coupon code, in other words the student discount is not stackable with additional coupon code offers. If you find a 30% off coupon code for an HP notebook it will be better to use that coupon code and skip the student discount as the price will actually be better by just using the coupon.  We keep track of coupon codes you can apply on this site, look to the top of the page to find those codes.

The coupon code entry on HP.com comes at the very end of checkout, when you are prompted to enter your credit card payment information.  Below is a screenshot of where to enter the code (click to see larger image):
