The one upgrade I might recommend is to the Full HD screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, this will provide full 1080p video quality playback experience. If you’re going to stream HD video via Netflix or Hulu etc. then it’s well worth getting the higher resolution monitor to support the hi-definition video otherwise you may notice some pixelation. Blu-Ray is a standard option, which is very nice and will make the dv7tqe a great multimedia laptop that can double as an entertainment system and replace a TV if you’re tight on room. The base level Intel Core i7-2670QM Quad Core processor is more than enough for the average student, so there’s no need to pay for an expensive $150 upgrade to a faster processor there. Since the 8GB of RAM is standard with any dv7t Quad Edition laptop there’s no sense spending the ridiculous $600 it costs to upgrade to 16GB, 8GB is plenty. The upgrade to a faster 750GB 7200RPM drive is only $10, so that is worth the extra price for a potential performance gain. For $25 you can upgrade to the AMD Radeon 6770m card, which I think is another worthwhile upgrade given the low cost to do so. If you’re into gaming then the graphics card upgrade is a no brainer.
For $799.99 the Core i7 Quad Core processor, 8GB of RAM, 750GB HD and dedicated graphics is a steal for the dv7tqe. The build quality of the dv7t Quad Edition laptop is outstanding and it’s one of most popular selling laptops for HP for good reason, it’s a great buy!
