The weight of only 3lbs makes the Aspire 1830 an excellent laptop to just throw in your backpack and use around campus. It is just over 1-inch thick and so will easily slip into your backpack. The color of this model is brown, which is quite attractive and more interesting than the ubiquitous black glossy design you see so often. Another note worth mentioning that makes this laptop unique is that in addition to Wi-Fi 802.11 it also comes with a built-in 3G option.
As far as performance goes, the Intel Core i3-330UM 1.2GHz processor is a 2010 based Intel Core i3 processor so it is not the latest and greatest, however, it will be more than adequate for typical mobile computing needs such as web surfing, email, document editing and general productivity programs. It has an HDMI port so it can be used to download or stream video and then display it on a larger TV or monitor. The one recommended upgraded you might want to do is put in an extra 2GB of memory to bring the total to 4GB.
