HP TouchPad 16GB $99.99, TouchPad 32GB $149.99

UPDATE #3 10:00 p.m. 8/21: The TouchPad is now sold out on HP.com, however you can sign up for an email alert for in stock availability.

UPDATE #2 1:30 p.m. 8/20: The $99 and $149.99 deal is now out of stock at HP Home, you can still get the HP TouchPad for $99 at HB Business , both the $99 16GB and $99 32GB version are in stock, HURRY, it’s out of stock almost everywhere!!!

UPDATE #1 11:30 p.m. 8/19: The $99 and $149.99 deal is now active via the HP Student Discount site, and coupon code SAVE15HP and HPSAVE10 both work to save $15 or $10 respectively.

HP is liquidating the remaining inventory of the TouchPad tablet starting tomorrow (8/20), the 16GB TouchPad will be $99.99 and the 32GB TouchPad will be $149.99.  The sale will start at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.  Considering that the TouchPad first went on sale back in May for $499.99 for the 16GB version and $599.99 for the 32GB version.  There is no doubt this will be the best opportunity to get a quality tablet for $99 than you will possibly ever see again.  Not even Black Friday deals will compete with this.  Here are links to the deal.

There are a couple of HP coupons available that technically will work to knock the price down further (SAVE15HP for $15 off and SAVE30HP for $30 off), but the TouchPad has been excluded from all coupon codes so the price you see is the lowest you can get. It appears the HP TouchPad will also be discounted by other retailers, FutureShop.ca has already dropped the price on their site to $99 for the 16GB TouchPad, but it indicates the deal is only available in store and not online:

HP TouchPad $99

It’s a sure bet other retailers will soon be dropping their pricing to match the $99 and $149 amount for each TouchPad version.

Why is HP dropping the TouchPad price so much?

Good question, and you’re probably asking because you didn’t hear that HP is going to stop making the TouchPad that they just launched a couple of months ago and abandon the WebOS platform.  That means there’s going to be little to no further app development for the HP TouchPad App Library, it’s already slim pickings for apps on the TouchPad and this just means it will remain that way.   But you will still of course be able to use a web browser on the TouchPad so you can do everything on this tablet that you can in a web browser, and for that reason it’s still an amazing deal.  I reviewed the HP TouchPad back in June and found it to be a quality device than can be useful as a study aid if you’re a student that needs a mobile device.

I’m predicting that the TouchPads left in inventory are going to sell out in the blink of an eye with this deal, so if you don’t jump on the deal this weekend there’s little chance you will get a TouchPad for this price.  And it likely goes without saying, but DO NOT pay for an extended warranty if you buy the TouchPad.  It’s unlikely HP will honor a warranty anyway as they won’t be making the parts for it anymore and if it breaks you’ll simply be out of luck – that’s another risk you take with buying a device that is being abandoned by a company.
