Norton Antivirus 2011 isn’t exactly an exciting piece of software, but if you’re using a Windows laptop it, or another antivirus program, are something you’ll need installed to stay protected from malware and hackers. Without an Antivirus you’re at risk of having data stolen from your laptop or just having your computer becoming generally hosed and unusable if a malicious virus infects your PC.
Antivirus software isn’t cheap, often costing around $50 for just one year of protection. There is however a student discount for Norton Antivirus 2011 that gets you 50% off bringing the price down to $19.99:
To get this price a student has to submit their school email address at the bottom of the college discount store page and following that Norton will send you an email verifying you are eligible. I tested this out and after you are approved by the system you get an email that looks like the following:
And you just click on the link for the product you want to buy and you’re taken to a shopping cart page that reflects the student discount price.
A Student Discount isn’t always the best price….
Now, just because Norton is giving you a student discount does not mean it’s the best deal out there. You still need to do pricing comparisons. For instance, I went to Amazon.com and found the price of Norton Antivirus 2011 to be $16.99. You do have to wait for a disk to be delivered, there’s no download like is offered via Norton.com student offer. However, some people prefer a physical box and disk when it comes to software, so if that’s the case for you the Amazon deal might be especially appealing.
While even $20 might be annoying to spend on software you don’t really want, consider the fact that if a Virus infects your laptop and you need to get work done, it can take hours or days to deal with cleaning up the virus, the time you waste will cost you more than the $19.99 not to mention all the missed study time it can cost you!
