Office for Mac 2011 Student coming October 26th

Office 2011 student While Microsoft Office 2010 was released for Windows this past summer Office 2008 remains as the most up to date version for the Apple Mac OS X platform. This will change in just a couple of weeks when Microsoft releases Office 2011 Mac. The full version will cost $199 and include Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook and Messenger. The good news is that according to Microsoft there will be a student discounted version of Office for Mac 2011 that will retail for $119 for a single license or $149 for a 3 license “family pack”. However, on Amazon.com Office for Mac 2011 is already available for pre-order and the 3-license version is available for $129.99. That’s only $10 more than the single license version of Office 2011 so you’re much better off getting three people together to split the cost of the 3 license version. You’re allowed to install the family pack on three separate machines so if 3 people split the cost it’s about $43 each and free shipping + no tax when you purchase from Amazon.

For those who are wondering if there are any disadvantages to getting the student edition of Office 2011, the answer is “not really”.  With the Office 2011 student edition you still get Word, Excel and Powerpoint — the only thing missing is Outlook email and most home and student users will never need that application anyway.
