2010 State Tax Free Weekends

Some states in the U.S. offer tax free weekends during the back to school shopping season and if you’re looking to buy big ticket items such as a laptop you can save yourself hundreds of dollars in taxes in some cases.  For instance, if you’re spending $2,000 on a computer in North Carolina where the state sales tax is 5.75% so the tax savings if you buy the computer this weekend would be $115.  States have different guidelines for limit amounts on the price of items that qualify for tax-free and also what kinds of items qualify.  Below is a list of all the states participating in 2010 with tax-free weekends and if you’re a student looking to purchase back to school supplies it’s a good idea to make those purchases during the tax free weekend!
