Dell Inspiron R Series for Students Released

The new Dell Inspiron R series was announced today just in time for back-to-school 2010 with a group of laptops that fit the needs and the budget of students.  The Dell Inspiron 14R, Inspiron 15R and Inspiron 17R will all be available via Dell.com and retail stores starting this week.

The Inspiron 14R 14-inch model will be best suited for student use as it will easily fit into a messenger bag and not take up too much space in the tight quarters of a dorm room.  For those that prefer a larger screen the Inspiron 15R 15-inch model and Inspiron 17R 17-inch model are also available and are quite thin and light for their size still.

Inspiron R Notebook Family

The overall design of the Inspiron R series is more curvy than previous Inspiron models and feature a “forward-hinge” design similar to the Dell Adamo.  The lids are available in four glossy colors including Mars Black, Tomato Red, Peacock Blue and Lotus Pink.  Dell is claiming the Inspiron R series is not only attractive but also built to last.  The palm rests feature a smudge resistant design and the frame of the laptop has been made stiffer to provide a more solid and quality feel.

The performance of the Inspiron 14R, 15R and 17R will be ample for students needs as the fast new Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors will be standard.  Certain configurations will also offer dedicated ATI graphics with 1GB of video RAM.  Below are the common technical characteristics for the Inspiron R series:

  • Processor: Intel Core i3 and i5 mobile processor options

About Andrew

I'm a big believer in the importance of technology usage in education, but not just having blind faith in technology gadgets and using them in a school setting for the sake of it. I review and write about technology devices such as laptops and tablets that have a clear purpose and provide a learning advantage for students.
