The new HP dm3t and dm3z laptops were released on the HP Direct website today and are available to order with Windows 7. The dm3 laptop line is a 13.3” thin and light laptop that HP is gearing towards students. The HP Pavilion dm3t is powered by an Intel processor inside while the dm3z contains an AMD processor. The dm3t is slightly more expensive with a starting price of $649.99 while the dm3z comes out of the gate with a $549.99 price tag.
These new laptops are perfectly suited for students due to the fact they have a light 4.2lb thin-and-light portable design and yet have a high resolution 13.3” screen making it easy to see and get work done. Add to that the fact you can get up to 10 hours of battery life using the 12-cell battery for all day computing and you can rest assured you’ll be productive all day long.
While technical prowess is nice, looks are also important, and the dm3 does not fail there. The laptop case has what HP calls a “Modern Argento” brushed aluminum finish that is both stylish and durable, below are pictures of the dm3:

The one downside to the HP dm3 is the fact there is no built-in optical drive such as a DVD or Blu-Ray drive. For many students this won’t be a big deal and it’s possible to attach an external optical drive that can be purchased at HP.com for only $49.99 upgrade for the DVD or $129.99 for the external Blu-Ray.
Stay tuned to studentbuyingguide.com as we’ll be reviewing the HP dm3t very soon!

Two quick questions. Why is the AMD laptop $100 cheaper than the Intel?? I have heard AMD’s run a bit warmer. Secondly how many times can the battery be recharged? I know apple claims that in their new macbook pro you can charge the battery up to 1000 times.
The AMD is $100 cheaper because the particular AMD processor they’re using here is cheaper technology, meaning it is not as power efficient (you get less battery life) and does not perform as well. That’s not to say AMD is always worse than Intel, its just the processor options HP is giving you here. AMD does tend to undercut Intel on price a bit too, so they are more budget friendly I guess you could say.
It’s hard to claim how many cycles a battery will last, even if Apple claims you can charge the battery up to 1000 times but it all depends on usage and how much you use your laptop on battery versus plugged in power, what temperature it is stored at and how much you charge your battery up (it’s better not to charge up all the way to preserve capacity). In general, laptop batteries need to be replaced after 1.5 – 2 years depending on usage. Even if you don’t use a battery at all the capacity drops over time simply due to chemical break down.
One last question, is the 1.3GHz processor a concern? I am looking for a new laptop for grad school so I will be using the computer for more than just surfing the web.
how is intel core2 duo SU7300?? It is good or not ??? how is good ??
