Posted on 30 October 2008

Sony has opened up a new program for students called the Sony Style Campus Program.  This program allows university students in the U.S., students parents or teachers to get a 10% discount on VAIO laptops and desktops and digital voice recorders.

Here’s what eligibility for this education discount is based on:

  • Students currently attending or accepted into an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Parents and legal guardians purchasing on behalf of their child who is a student currently attending or accepted into an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Faculty and Staff members from an accredited college or university in the United States

You can purchase a VAIO either online or in a Sony Style retail store.  The process online is a little complicated, but here are the steps to guide you on this.

  1. Go to the Sony Style Campus Program page, click this link to get there
  2. Put in your school name and select a state, remember the PIN “SONYCAMPUS“, you’ll need it on the next page and it needs to be in caps.sony-registration
  3. On the next page, register with your email and personal information and put in the PIN “SONYCAMPUS” where it indicates.  You’ll need to create yourself a password here as well so you can login later.reg-step2
  4. After this process is done, you’ll be directed back to the homepage of  SonyStyle.com.  You NEED TO LOGIN (link at the top of the page) using the email and password you created on the registration page.  Once that’s done, start shopping!
  5. The discount will NOT SHOW UNTIL IT’S IN YOUR CART.  Below see a screenshot for a Sony VAIO SR290 that I configured and then got the student discount of 10% off to drop the price to $1,111.34 from the regular price of $1,194.99:Price of VAIO SR with student discountvaio-sr-shopping-cart-with-student-discountPrice of VAIO SR without student discount

If you don’t like buying online, you can go to any SonyStyle retail store to make a purchase, just take a valid student ID to get the 10% discount.  You can buy one VAIO product per year with this discount and as many voice recorders as you like.

If you’re a student looking for a laptop, definitely check out the 13.3″ VAIO SR laptop for school needs, or if you want something a little cheaper and with a bigger screen the 15.4″ Sony VAIO NS is a great budget option that starts at $799.99 without discount.
