Many students out there are familiar with cash back programs such as FatWallet.com or eBates.com. The basic idea is that you use links from these “Cash Back” sites to go and purchase a product from an online retailer and the cash back website will track your purchase and give you a certain % of sale reward. Microsoft recently got into this cash back rewards program through its Live.com website and is offering excellent cash back incentives along with a more instant payback than other cash back sites.
For instance, if you use Live.com to follow a link to HP.com to purchase a $1,000 laptop, Microsoft will give you 5% cash back ($50) on that purchase. The discount won’t show up when you purchase through HP, but in your Live.com account you will see this $50 show up soon after the purchase is made. This is better than you find with FatWallet.com which sometimes takes several months to get you a cash back check.
There are a ton of retailers participating in this deal. Some of the major names you’ll recognize along with the cash back offer from Microsoft Live are below:
