Pier 1 Import is a furniture / decoration store offering chic, urban, modern decorations at reasonable prices. Don’t get me wrong, prices aren’t as stellar as Ikea, but the quality is higher and the decor is a little more homely. The good news is that to help with this price issue Pier 1 Import offers a 15% discount for students. Just flash your student ID card to get this 15% off. As long as you look young enough and have an ID card they won’t do any further checking, so no need to take along your latest class syllabus or a note from the registrar’s office.

Here’s another piece of advice. Since Discover offers a 5% cash back bonus on furniture store purchases (through until June 30th at the moment), you could buy $100 Pier 1 gift cards using the Discover card and get $5 back on your card for each $100 spent. Then use those gift cards to buy the goods in the store you need and you’ll essentially be getting a 20% off price. Not too bad at all, especially if you’re able to find stuff in the store that’s on sale.

Personally I don’t buy much from Pier 1, I’m just not the type to be decorating my home in as stylish a manner as you might find at Pier 1. If you’re an aspiring interior decorator and have a creative mind there’s definitely a lot of cool random stuff to be found in the store though. The selection is usually eclectic, featuring decor from around the world. You can do everything from finding the perfect bedroom styles to chic dining room sets.
