Posted on 21 March 2008

The Intel T5550 is a Core 2 Duo processor, meaning it has two processing cores enabling it to handle multiple tasks at once. The T5550 has the following specifications:

Clock Speed: 1.83GHz,

Memory Cache: 2Mb

Front Side Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Socket-Type: P

The Intel T5550 can be considered a well-performing mainstream processor that can handle nearly anything you throw at it. The T5550 is also 64-bit capable, meaning you can run 64-bit versions of Windows Vista on a laptop with this processor.

The T5550 is a good choice for a laptop that you need to last you for the next 3-years, while it’s not the fastest processor available, it will perform very well for the typical user and has a friendly price compared to the more expensive faster 2.0GHz and faster processors.

Below is a graph comparing the T5550 to other Intel Core 2 Duo laptop processors, you can see that the slightly faster 2.0GHz Intel T7250 only scores 49 points higher and is generally not worth the $100 upgrade most laptop makers will charge you. Click on the graph for a larger view.
